Obituary

We have been informed that longtime AOS Member Paul Whiteside has passed away.

Paul joined AOS in 1967 and was active in both Football and Basketball as an IHSA official. He went on to become an NFL official and served in different capacities for 43 years in the NFL, working the play clock for many years for the Bears. He was also a college football official and play clock operator in the Big Ten and with the Chicago Rush Arena Football Team.

In 2013, he served as the play clock operator for the Big Ten Championship and in 2022 served in the same capacity for the NCAA National Championship Game.

Paul was also the co-author of several books on Football Rules.

Paul was originally from Terre Haute, Indiana, but lived most of his life in Elk Grove Village. He was made an honorary lifetime AOS member upon his retirement. He recently moved to Ft. Meyers, Florida where he was residing at the time of his death.
